While traveling, many people have seen those gigantic tanks standing in industrial areas on the outskirts of any town or city. But what could possible be inside, and what kind of maintenance do they require? San Antonio sandblasting ensures that the insides are prepared for San Antonio Coatings to be applied. This is a difficult and messy job, to say the least, and is best left to those who know what they are doing to carry out the work.

Tanks and containers need a barrier inside the container to stop the contents corroding the fabric of the tank. Some even have to have the linings changed every few years to alleviate rust and tiny holes appearing. When this is necessary, blasting techniques are used with either sand or small metal pellets to remove anything which needs to come off.

It is amazing how much will eventually be taken off the surface by just using sand. This medium literally blasts the lining at a super high speed. Indeed, if the worker was unfortunate enough to get a hand in front of this, he would be very damaged indeed. It can get off rust, old baked on paint, and any other build up that is not required. It also leaves the surface with just the right amount of roughness to take on the new paint or covering.

With the pellet blasting, all of the material is collected in a vacuum machine which plucks out the debris leaving behind the pellets automatically. The pellets are then vacuumed back into the chamber in one easy operation.

The inside of oil tanks will need to have protective covering to stop the metal from rusting and spoiling the contents. These are sometimes so huge that a team of men may need to get inside the container to undertake the work. Insides of these containers can also build up a kind of clinker that will need some force to prize off.

For beams and other supporting structures, coverings need to be sprayed on first to stop corrosion from the elements or other outside contaminants. This is particularly necessary when it comes to structures like bridges or any other load bearing contraptions that carries massive weight.

For this work, metal wire, or something similar, is melted and then sprayed over the necessary iron work through a high pressure sprayer. Coats can be built up with several layers to make sure that the seal is both water proof and anti corrosive. After treatment, these coverings can last up to thirty years depending on the conditions surrounding the structure.

Even everyday painting jobs have been undertaken with similar sprayers. Indeed, the new innovation for house painting is to load a sprayer with paint and decorate all surfaces, both inside and outside, with a fine layer of paint. This can be built up over several coverings to make a smooth and lustrous finish. This is much like the way that cars have paint applied so it is extremely fast with a much better finish than the traditional method. As always, protective clothing is a must for this type of work to not get covered with the paint.
